STUDIO

Ember Paw Games started as a group of friends in Skövde, Sweden, who had a dream of starting a game studio. In 2022, that dream came true as it was the year Ember Paw Games officially became a registered company. The team has now expanded and our employees have tons of experience, skills and passion, which we utilize to create what we think, is one of the best game experiences out there! Our focus is to create engaging and exciting gameplay in a pixelated style. Today, we are working on our first game, Odinfall, in collaboration with our publisher Fireshine Games.

We are so grateful for this journey and everyone that we got to know along the way, and can't wait to see what the future holds!

ACCESSIBILITY & GAME DEVELOPMENT

At Ember Paw, accessibility is something we always strive to learn more about and implement in both our games and workplace. It’s not as easy as it may sound, and there are a lot of “errors” to learn from. Sometimes, we have to be honest about the fact that, in certain situations, we may not be knowledgeable enough to achieve everything perfectly on the first try. However, the motivation and passion are always there, and we continuously learn from our mistakes! Our commitment to striving for better, more inclusive game features and company values will always be at the core of our mission.

After creating our first game, we have mostly focused on improving and implementing accessibility around color usage and controller/keyboard settings. Colors play a big role in user interface design, both in gaming and tech. While we haven’t yet developed a color-blind mode like some larger games have, we are focusing on contrast and shape language. We often take screenshots of the game and use tools to simulate how it appears to people with different visual abilities and to measure contrast. For example, in Odinfall, our doors differ not only in color — blue and red — but also in shape. This helps users differentiate them by both color and form.

For our settings, we’ve included a range of options. At first, it may seem like a lot, but we believe it’s important to give users the freedom to customize their experience. We have also learned from our community, listening to their opinions and suggestions as we develop the game. For instance, we added a setting for camera movement after one user suggested that this feature would enhance their experience. Additionally, users can choose between a controller or keyboard and customize all key bindings to suit their preferences.
